Jordan Buchanan

Jordan became a police officer in 1989 and retired from policing in 2019. He worked in Patrol, Community Based Policing, Intelligence as an Intelligence Officer, Behavioral Sciences (ViCLAS) as a Violent Crime Analyst, Criminal Investigations Division as a Detective in General Investigations, Sexual Assault Investigations and Homicide. He was a Forensic Polygraph Examiner, a Crisis Negotiator, an Incident Commander and trained in Multi-Jurisdictional Major Case Management. He was in Uniform Division as a Platoon Sergeant then Platoon Staff Sergeant returning as a Detective Staff Sergeant for his last 4 years to the Criminal Investigation Division. Jordan Buchanan was born and raised in Northern Ontario. He grew up in Sudbury, went to high school in Timmins and Post Secondary School in Sudbury. He has a 2 year college diploma in Law and Security Administration and a 4 year Honor’s Bachelor of Arts Degree in Law and Justice.
He attended both the Ontario Police College and the Canadian Police College for various courses. Jordan taught for 2 years at a private college teaching courses to Police Foundations, Drug Counselling and Social Worker in Crisis Intervention, Report Writing and Interviewing/Interrogation. He also taught courses for the Ontario Police College and the Northern Ontario Police Academy for Advanced Training for General Investigations, Strategic Interviewing, Sexual Assault Investigators and Major Case Management.
He was the undercover officer in Project Foxy, a 5 month pornography project and was involved in Project Dismantle, a province wide biker project targeting the Satan’s Choice M/C, for one and half years as a biker investigator and on a mobile surveillance team. He was lead investigator on an 8 month complex homicide investigation under Project Burn. Jordan spent a month at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010 on the Integrated Security Unit.

Jordan volunteers in the community with the Garson Lions Club since 1994 and the Sudbury Region Police Museum. He also mountain bikes in the summer with SPYDR (Sudbury Police and Youth Dirt Riders). He was a very active member of the Critical Incident Stress Management Team with Sudbury Police and for the District of Sudbury for over 20 years. He went to New York after 9/11 to conduct CISM debriefings with officers involved in that event.
Jordan is currently married to the love of his life, Brenda, who he has been with since 1990. He is a step father to Brenda’s children and many grandchildren. He lives with a house panther named Kalamazoo and his partner in adventures, Jake, the Alaskan Husky Shepard. They have a happy home off grid in Northern Ontario where he enjoys the summer paddling, camping and mountain biking. His winters are spent as a part time snow mobile trail groomer and enjoys cross country skiing. Some of Jordan’s hobbies include reading, watching old movies, playing guitar and listening to records (google records if you were born after 1980).
